Retaining Wall Systems
Retaining Walls Built for Pittsburgh

A retaining wall is more than the face you see—it is a complete system that holds soil, manages water, and protects usable space around the property. Allen Construction begins by reading the grade, soil conditions, drainage path, and pressure behind the wall. We then excavate, build and compact the leveling base, install drainage aggregate and reinforcement where the design requires it, set the wall system accurately, and complete the project with clean grading. From straight walls and curves to integrated steps, columns, and tiered layouts, every Pittsburgh retaining-wall project is built around the site—not forced onto it.

OUR GO-TO VERSA-LOK RETAINING WALL SYSTEM

VERSA-LOK has been producing solid solutions for retaining walls since 1987 and pioneered the original solid, pinned segmental retaining wall system. Its patented top-down, hole-to-slot pinning design creates both frictional and positive mechanical interlock between courses. The variable-bond system allows blocks to be adjusted during installation, keeps joints tighter, accommodates curves and corners, and lets geogrid reinforcement lay flat between solid units. That combination of strength, flexibility, and proven design is why VERSA-LOK Standard block has become our go-to retaining-wall system.

Allen Construction has completed multiple successful VERSA-LOK installations across Pittsburgh-area properties, and the system continues to perform for us from one project to the next. We trust it for residential retaining walls, landscape walls, stairs, corners, and more complex outdoor construction because it gives our crew the control to build clean lines without sacrificing structural function. Paired with proper excavation, compacted aggregate, drainage stone, perforated pipe when required, reinforced soil design, and careful backfill, VERSA-LOK helps us deliver a finished wall that looks intentional and is built for long-term service.
